ABOUT US

Our Background

The Francis Ng’ang’a Foundation (FNF) is the brainchild of Mr. Francis Muiruri Ng’ang’a, H.S.C, O.G.W who is a household name in the Kenyan Education sector. He started off as a class teacher before venturing into trade unionism. He rose through the ranks to become the Secretary General of the Kenya National Union Of Teachers, one of Kenya’s strongest trade unions. Mr. Ng’ang’a passionately served for close to 30 years including 8 years at the helm.

Mr. Ng’ang’a has always been devoutly passionate towards helping children access quality education. Throughout his career, he vigorously agitated for teachers rights and welfare, while at the same time sponsoring needy children through the trade union, and by himself.

He successfully led teachers to secure favourable collective bargaining agreements and personally led the successful campaign for constitutional recognition and protection of the Teachers’ Service Commission, (TSC).

For his dedication and commitment to teachers’ and learners’ welfare, Mr. Ng’ang’a has received national and international recogniton including the following:

Head of State Commendation (HSC).
Order of the Grand Warriors of Kenya(OGW).
Millennium Development Ambassador- Teachers without Borders.
Although Mr. Ng’ang’a has since retired from active trade unionism, he has continued to support children’s education countrywide and is currently involved with programs for children with disabilities specifically the deaf. He has been in the forefront in advocating for them as well as fundraising for their needs. Enforcing legal recognition for their rights to education and parental care is key in his agenda. He has also set up a primary school.

Currently, he is the National Chairman of the Kenya Society for Deaf Children and also a member of the National Anti-corruption Campaign Steering Committee.
The Francis Ng’ang’a Foundation was set up to be the vehicle for continued access to quality education and healthcare for needy children, as well as quality and sensitive care for the elderly citizens of Kenya and beyond.

It aims to pull together finances and resources to set up training and rehabilitation centres for children and youth and to offer scholarships to children from needy backgrounds. The foundation endeavors to promote the living standards for the elderly, through setting up of sustainable income generating activities.
